Mairi Thérèse Gilfedder

Violin/ FiddleTutor

Originally from South Uist, Mairi Therese was surrounded by Traditional Music from a young age and took violin lessons from Deirdre Morrison from the age of 11. Her West Coast Style of playing is highly influenced by the Gaelic songs and piping tradition of the Western Isles.

 

Alongside traditional music, Mairi Therese received classical lessons from Duncan Johnson and went on to study BA Applied Music at Strathclyde University where she was immersed in numerous styles such as traditional, classical, jazz and contemporary. She has recently completed a Master's degree in Music from the University of Glasgow.

 

Mairi is very active on the Scottish music scene regualry playing with numberous projects and bands, including the fantastic Grouse Cailidh Band and the Beinn Lee Ceilidh Band.
