Sean O'Rourke

Guitar Tutor

One of our most experienced tutors, multi instrumentalist Sean attended Glasgow School of Art, winning several awards including the Maclaine Watters Medal and 1st Watercolour prize in the John and Mabel Craig Bequest Fund Competition.

A co-founding member of the JSD Band, who pioneered Folk-Rock in the early 70s, Sean and the band went on to produce three studio albums and three singles. Throughout their career they played and toured with legendary acts such as Gerry Rafferty, Staus Quo, Rory Gallagher, The Kinks and David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust tour.

In 1976 Sean formed traditional music band Alba and was first to introduce Highland Pipes into folk group format, producing what has been described as a seminal album in Scottish/Celtic Folk/Traditional Music.

In 1982-3 Sean had the pleasure of working with harpist Savourna Stevenson and later formed Jazz/folk fusion band, the Keltz, featuring Indian Tabla player Vijay Kangutkar, producing a further three albums together through the 90s.

While still playing and recording at every opportunity, Sean is also a noted sculptor, artist, and a popular lecturer of music and arts at John Wheatley College in Glasgow.

Below you can hear the JSD Band's stunning version of Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice", featuring Sean on guitar and vocals.
